Subject: Darwin Streaming Server on Windows 2000
From: Rob Werner <email@hidden>

Hi all,

I'm just trying to gather some opinions on the stability / efficiency of
running the Darwin Streaming Server on a Windows 2000 platform.

Does it run effectively? Is it stable? Basically, is it a viable choice?

Ideally we would like to run under OSX, but orders from above dictate
otherwise...

Thanks,

-Rob

I've been running a Darwin server for the last two years under Win2K Server.

It is stable, but then it's also the least-used service we offer. It may move two or three hundred megs of data a day. I don't think it has ever crashed.

There's an issue with accessing the admin interface (gotta log on and run a perl script before the web admin interface will even work - can't put that up as a service), but since you can't do much there anyway, it's pretty irrelevant how hard it is to get to that page.

I never ran the mac version, so I don't know if there are any feature differences. To me the Win version seems rather lean when compared to Real or WinMedia.

Peter
