This can happen if there isn't enough bandwidth between your Streaming
Server, and your client connection. For example, if your QTSS machine
is setup at home behind your DSL or cable modem, then you will
typically only have 128kbit/s upstream (unless you pay extra for more
upstream bandwidth). In this example, if you were trying to stream an
MP3 playlist consisting of 128kbit authored files, and if the
cstreaming MP3 client was connecting from elsewhere on the Internet to
your QTSS machine, then the 128kbit MP3 stream is too close to your
QTSS machine's maximum upstream bandwidth... which means you will
likely incur packetloss, and eventually the streaming MP3 client may
just get disconnected.
The work-around is to either host your QTSS server someplace else where
your upstream bandwidth is not as severely capped, or else to re-author
your MP3 files to a lower bitrate. However, if Bandwidth is the
problem, then you will still run into issues even at lower bitrates if
too many clients connect simultaneously.
If you are certain that there is plenty of bandwidth for your Streaming
Server (where it is uplinked to the Internet), and you are certain
there is plenty of bandwidth for your MP3 Streaming Client, then you
might want to try the following:
Try increasing the parameter "mp3_max_flow_control_time" in your
streamingserver.xml file.
Path: /Library/QuickTimeStreamingServer/Config/streamingserver.xml
[excerpt]
<PREF NAME="mp3_max_flow_control_time" TYPE="SInt32"
>10000</PREF>
You will need to be logged in as an Administrator to be able to edit
this file. Make the number 10000 larger, then re-save the XML file,
and then stop/restart your QTSS streaming server processes.
Try increasing this number 10000, to maybe 12000 or maybe even larger.
This will increase the amount of RAM that QTSS uses per MP3 streaming
client connection. However, it may improve the stability of your MP3
streaming client connections if your network is experiencing some
packet-loss or congestion.
