Guys,
I have a box that is functioning as both a Windows Media Server streaming on
Port 80 on one IP address, and a Darwin Streaming server streaming over 554
on a second IP address assigned to the NIC. In this configuration, Darwin
streams very poorly. That is, even on Hinting Optimized movies , we get
choppiness and sometimes no video with terrible or no audio. If I go and
stop the Windows Media Services, and restart Darwin after configuring both
server and client to use Port 80, we get fantastic video/audio streams from
the server over Port 80.
This doesn't make sense per all of the documentation I have read. Yes, the
Darwin Server is completely open to the public on the server end, and the
clients are behind a firewall, but I made the appropriate firewall
adjustment of allowing 6970-6999 UDP and 554 TCP into the LAN from the WAN.
Further, it is interesting to me that I am getting the same behavior when
using my cable modem connection as a client. My cable modem connection at
home is completely open without any firewall configuration.
We are at the point where we are going to run a seperate box for Darwin if
we cant solve this problem!
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why this might happen as well as
solutions?
