Re: QTSS commercial use fees



Apple didn't buy them off; when I mentioned the MP4 license I was talking about the royalty fees from them. Sorry for being vague. Of course if you used a different codec such as Sorensen or something, you won't have such fees.

I'm not sure where you go to pay the music-related royalties; anybody know that?

As for license fees, there is a MP4 license but otherwise you're royalty free.

Now what did I miss along the way?
About a year ago our campus network gurus were looking at updating our streaming video service (multiple satellite TV reception), they liked the performance of QuickTime, they had seen mp4, but at that time the MP4 consortium was holding out for extortionate licensing fees, per stream and per player.


How did Apple buy them off?
