Dropped network connectivity

Hello all,

I'm having a persistent problem with DSS which has shown itself on both Mac OS X (not server) and a Windows box (non-server OS).

The problem is that the machine (which is more or less dedicated to QT streaming) will lose it's network connectivity. It disappears from the internet. It can't connect to the net and no one can connect to it. (no ping or nothin'). The server seems to merrily hum along however.

This has happened on both a Mac and a Windows machine running DSS. It happens very intermittently and is fixed with a reboot. Sometimes the box will run for days, sometimes hours, before losing net connectivity.

The network connection was the same for both machines so my IT guy and I have just changed the cable and port which we were using to connect to the 'net and that might fix it,

~but~

I was wondering if anyone else has come across this problem or has heard tell of such tales.

If the hardware changes we've made don't fix the problem it seems that it is definitely a software issue. Both on Mac and Windows we were running the server from a client OS not a server OS.

Thanks for any thoughts, ideas or comments.
