Broadcaster can use a variety of ports to communicate with QTSS. For
automatic Unicasts, Broadcaster will use 2 even numbered UDP ports in
the 6970-6998 range. You can configure specific UDP port numbers in the
Network tab for Manual Unicasts and Multicasts.
This document lists TCP ports used by version 4 of the QuickTime
Streaming Server and Darwin Streaming Server.
DISCUSSION
QuickTime Streaming Server 4 and Darwin Streaming Server 4 use the
following TCP ports:
80: HTTP
554: RTSP
6970 -9999: used for dynamic (announced) UDP broadcasts
7070: RTSP
8000, 8001: MP3 streaming
10,000-20,000: buffer space
20,000-65,535: static SDP default range (user defined)
Here's a review of client/firewall configuration:
Clients can be configured to connect over UDP or over a specific TCP
port (default is Port 80). This configuration is set in the QuickTime
Control Panel (Mac OS 9/Windows) or System Preferences (Mac OS X). With
QuickTime 6.4 on Mac OS X and Windows QuickTime will automatically try
http port 80 if rtsp port 554 fails.
Here's a review of server/firewall configuration:
Generally, it is best to have your streaming servers located outside of
any firewall(s) or port filtering devices. This way, clients can
connect via any of the methods above. Since some clients may be behind
their own firewalls, it is a good idea to enable port 80 streaming on
the server. When enabled, clients can request and negotiate streams via
TCP port 80, and receive streams via TCP port 80. If you want to be
enable QuickTime clients behind a firewall to receive rtsp/rtp streams
from QTSS/DSS outside a firewall ports 80, 554, 6970-6999, 7070,
8000-01 should be opened.

Can anyone give me the rule of thumb as to what ports I need to open
on my firewall if I'm trying to send audio via QT Broadcaster to a
QTSS on another network?
