Re: How do I use a text track

Sorry Rik, after some testing I realize I steered you wrong.

I found a small sample movie (please no comments on poor quality, made by a student...) with no hint tracks.
I opened this non-streaming movie in the GoLive QT Movie editor, and added a text track with a few samples, flattened it and saved it.
I then opened this movie, with its text track, in QT Player Pro, and exported as "Movie to Hinted Movie" with the default hint settings, and made two versions, one optimized for server and one not optimized. These both have three hint tracks now, for audio, video and text, in addition to the audio, video and text tracks.

I moved the steaming movies to our QTSS. In QT Player, go to File>Open URL in New Player, and type
rtsp://136.244.12.63/test/4boat-text-hint-opt.mov for the optimized version
or
rtsp://136.244.12.63/test/4boat-text-hint-nonopt.mov for the non-optiomized version

I then made a reference movie of the non-optimized version, and embedded it in a web page at
http://video.conncoll.edu/test/qttext.html

In all cases, I can see the text tracks on a Mac and a PC with QT6. My "QT for the Web" book is back at QT 5, but it suggests "optimizing for server", not sure now if this is still true or not for 6.

Good luck,
