Re: Stream server to work with Helix Producer

Subject: Stream server to work with Helix Producer

1) Have anyone tried the Helix Producer (https://helixcommunity.org/) with the Apple Stream Server?

Sorry, not sure if Producer would work. QTSS lets you serve MPEG4 and many QuickTime codecs live. For highest quality, at this time, your best bet would probably be the 3ivx MPEG4 codec. http://www.3ivx.com/technology/quicktime/index.html
Otherwise, use Sorenson Video 3 Developer, or maybe H.263. Others may disagree....
There are other live encoders besides QTBroadcaster that work with QTSS, such as Uplink:

2) Does the Apple Quicktime Broadcaster support Network Camera feeds?

Most people use it with the firewire input, you can first convert from analog to DV with a small converter box. For a nice setup look at Alexandra's:

QT Broadcaster or other encoders might also recognize an internal PCI card with video analog input. You will probably need a different computer for each live encoder, but there are some people on this board that have used two encoders/computer, using two different firewire buses.

3) Can I access multiple feeds coming from the Stream server on the same PC (granted audio can be heard from one window only). ie. Can I open multiple quicktime players/ Media players pointing to multiple feeds coming into the server?

No problem. Just keep opening new movies in QuickTime Player until your CPU bogs down...just go to File>Open Movie in New Player, or File>Open URL in New Player. Or see the quick and dirty demo...warning, each movie is 100kbps

These are not live sources, but live would be just as easy to code once the server gets the streams. QTSS can serve many different live streams.

4) Has anyone tried to send multiple live video feed output to a custom website, so you can see ..for ex: 4-8 video window on a webpage, all moving live?

Again, no problem....see the quick and dirty demo. Live would be just as easy...

Quicktime is not just a movie player, but also a semi-intelligent media "container", so you can put all your live movies in one other movie. 500 kbps movie:

This is very rough. You could build in interactivity to control the stop/play and audio on/off of each movie with wired sprites.

Sorry about the movie samples (quality, not content)....they were done by a student two years ago..
