Re: Please help me...RTSP/RTP problems

1)darwin shuts down the transmission to the client
after 2 minutes. Is this problem got anything to do
with RTCP packet transmission from the client to
darwin.

Yes, because the DSS uses incoming RTCP "Reception Report" (RR) packets from each client to check whether the client is still alive.

Is RTCP important for the implementation.

Yes it is.

I also
wish to know whether I should implement a mechanism
for receiving the SR sender packets from darwin.

Yes, if you wish to receive audio+video streams, and do proper time synchronization on them.

Note that the "VLC" media player client <http://www.videolan.org/vlc/> - available (with pre-built binaries) for Windows, Mac OS, Unix, etc., will properly play RTSP/RTP streams (including MP3/RTP streams, which even QuickTime Player currently doesn't support) from a Darwin Streaming Server. So, you should consider using this.

If, however, you prefer to 'roll your own' RTSP/RTP/RTCP client, then you should consider using the Open Source "LIVE.COM Streaming Media" libraries <http://www.live.com/liveMedia/>, because this includes an implementation of these protocols. (In fact, it is used to implement RTSP/RTP/RTCP in the "VLC" player.)
