newbie - broadcasting WITHOUT a broadcasting app

To no avail, I have searched the archives, google, etc...

I have a network video camera that can be accessed via an rtsp URL (rtps://mycamera/imgstream.jpg). I want to use QTSS to allow many users to view this stream using multicast. I can't figure out how to configure this. I can open QT Player and type the above URL into "Open URL in a new window" and it plays just fine.

What I envision is a unicast stream between the camera and the QTSS machine, then a multicast stream out of QTSS to the viewers. All viewers are on the same LAN, so I can (and due to bandwidth, must) use multicast.

I figure I would test this in two steps:

1. configure the system to get QTSS to provide multiple unicast streams, thereby relieving the camera of the stream request load.

2. change from multiple unicast streams to multicast.

All of the tutorials assume you are using a broadcasting application - I'm not - what do I need to do to configure QTSS to receive and rebroadcast the stream from the camera. Everything talks about putting the SDP file in the media directory - I don't have an SDP file.

Am I going to have to manually create an SDP file?

Any help in getting past step 1 would greatly be appreciated - pointers to information would be quite acceptable. I found the soundscreen.com site and it looks like it MAY help me with step 2, we'll see when I get to that step. I just need to get past step 1 first.

Thank you,
