Text link vs. embedded object?

I see in the QTSS Admin guide how to make a link for your streaming content... but I'm seeing that it has to be a picture of some sort embedded in the page. I don't want that. I want to have a text link open QuickTime player (in both Mac and PC environments). Is this possible? I'm sure it is in some way...

And what would be the advantages of either link?
