Re: -5408 Timed Out

Dave:

rtsp://65.196.224.27:80/sample_100kbit.mov
Does not work, so you don't have on port 80 streaming. Without port 80 streaming turned on you'll need more than tcp port 554 (that is just for rtsp). You'll also need to have the ports for udp/rtp open. Some pages outlining firewall ports for streaming include:
http://soundscreen.com/streaming/firewall.html

The streaming server uses a pair of udp ports for each streaming track. Even number ports are for sending udp/rtp data to the client, odd number ports are used to send udp/rtp status to & from the client. The ports used are negotiated in the setup phase of the rtsp connection.

Usually it is a good idea to turn on Port 80 streaming if you want to stream over the Internet. You never know if a client will be behind a restrictive firewall.

i have no problem marc germany:-)

Hmm, only Mac users can see the sample movie according to the logs. Just as a point of interest, can anyone supply a rtsp link for me to try, just so I can determin if my QuickTime viewer and network are working properly?
sure;)
rtsp://let.dyndns.tv/5_sec.mov

Works for me here and my designer at the office. So my network and my QT Viewer install are fine.

Back to square one.

thanks

I know I can see movies at Apple site, but I'd like to see the sample movie from a QTSS install ;^)

Thanks for the response, that is really interesting!

I telecommute to the NOC and I get the error. I have my own FreeBSD firewall (IPFilter) and I know that it passes port 554. One of my site designers at a third location is behind a PIX firewall, he sees other QuickTime sites and yet he gets the same error as I.

arrrrg! Now I am really confused.

Good after noon all,

I've installed QTSS on a Windows 2000 server as a test. It seemed to install easily enough but I cannot get a sample movie from it. When I try rtsp://65.196.224.27/sample_100kbit.mov I see my QT viewer "Switching Transports" twice, media appears to come in, and then the error.

The test server is not behind a firewall, you can watch the connection become established on port 554 with netstat -a.

Google has shown this question before, but no answers. The install is stone cold OOTB, no changes, nothing fancy, no "how-to" found on the internet was followed. Just the packaged readme and install information.

Windows 2000 server, service pack 4
Darwin Streaming Server 5.0.1

Thanks,
