Yes, I know the exact problem you describe. Unfortunately, it is a
hardware problem in the device has no resolution. My understanding from
Formac at the time is that the audio sampling was specified as, say X
kHz, but was actually X.001 kHz (for example), and it wouldn't be long
before the actual data was hopelessly out of sync with what is supposed
to be collected, resulting in the audio hiccups and then eventual loss
of audio altogether.
If you need TV input that is suitable for streaming via QuickTime
Broadcaster, my recommendations are a FireWire audio/video converter
box in conjunction with an external tuner, the Miglia AlchemyTV PCI
tuner card, or the JVC SR-VS30U VTR (basically a digital VHS VCR, with
a tuner and FireWire, and that outputs the TV channels via DV over
FireWire).
I'm seeking input from anyone who has used either the Formac Studio
TVR or
DV/TV with QuickTime Broadcaster and who experienced audio problems
(amplitude modulation, dropouts, etc.) that could never be reliably
solved.
I met two people at WWDC 2004 who experienced these problems as well (I
don't have your names) -- I recall an audio clocking/ stability problem
being mentioned. Any input could be to the list, or privately to me.
I am
trying to document the problem(s), and the more input from the field,
the
better. thanks
