I'd like to ask the
group for some advice on how to go about setting up an editing system to produce
streaming tutorial movies (something akin to www.lynda.com).
We have raw
video/audio already in hand. We need to efficiently move it to a streaming
video format for an Apache-based webserver. How do we move forward from
here?
We have done a lot
of investigation trying to find the best way to take raw video and edit them
in Final Cut Express (FCE) and then convert them to streaming videos for a
website. However, we are wrestling with the following
questions.
With consideration
to:
a) streaming
bandwidth ( our server charges additional $$ for streaming videos so we want to
keep bandwidth sizes down if possible)
b) user's connect
speed (dial-up vs dsl vs cable)
c) the user's
platform (Windows Media Player/RealPlayer/Quicktime) in the
marketplace
Our questions
are:
1. What is the
optimum overall format to use (we only want to work in one format)
? AVI, WMV, MP4, MPG, MPEG?
2. What is the
optimum video size (320 x 240 seems too small)?
3. As we export from
FCE, what are the optimum settings to use for video and
audio?
4. Do we need to do
any 'optimizing' or 'conversion' after we export from FCE (we hope
not!)?
5. What are the best
tools to use for this entire process?
Any other
suggestions or ways to tackle this would be muchly
appreciated.
Thanks so much for
any help this forum can provide!
Brad
