Re: Manual for QTSS Publisher?

Andrew:

There are lots of ways to submit feedback... Here are a few:

Through this list ;-)
Caveat - one of the nice things about this list is the focus on
practical stuff, and that there isn't a lot of ranting or chatter.
We have a feedback page for Mac OS X Server, including streaming:
	http://www.apple.com/feedback/server.html
Apple Discussions on QTSS
	http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?email@hiddenotwMWw.2@.68938f5e
As a registered developer through the Apple Developer Connection
	http://developer.apple.com/membership/
Through an authorized Apple reseller, VAR or direct Apple Sales force

Also note the page:
http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/tiger/
QuickTime Streaming Server. Tiger Server delivers H.264 streaming, increased performance for HD Streaming and the latest 3GPP standards, and features an improved QTSS Publisher that works well with Automator.

From the look of it, while Publisher looks like it could be a nice
application, it's still quite immature.

I have started using it quite a bit, can I submit feature suggestions to
Apple in any way?

Andrew:

There is some documentation in the QTSS docs, but probably not what you

are looking for.

QTSS Publisher stores all original media files in /Library/Application
Support/Apple/QTSS Publisher/Libraries

If you want the original media to be stored on the RAID, then you would

need to create a symlink that points to that directory. For instance,
if your RAID volume was named "RAID" and you had a directory at the
root level named "QTSSMedia" that you wanted the media stored in, the
command:

ln -s /Volumes/RAID/QTSSMedia /Library/Application\ Support/Apple/QTSS\

Publisher/Libraries

will create the symlink. Note that the /Library/Application
Support/Apple/QTSS Publisher/Libraries directory must be moved before
you can do this (I recommend moving, not deleting in case something
goes awry.) Make sure to set the permissions on the directory so the
admin user can have full access (read, write and execute): QTSS
Publisher only works for admin users in the current release.

When you make media available for streaming or download, QTSS Publisher

will copy the file into the qtmedia folder in the streaming server
and/or web server document root. You can also symlink these
directories. Again, the directories should belong the admin user and
admin group. For example, if we had directories on the RAID volume
described above named "QTSSwebMedia" for web published media and
"QTSSstreamMedia" for streamed media, we could symlink into the default

locations of the web and streaming server with the following commands:

ln -s /Volumes/RAID/QTSSwebMedia /Library/WebServer/Documents/qtmedia
ln -s /Volumes/RAID/QTSSstreamMedia
/Library/QuickTimeStreaming/Movies/qtmedia

-George

PS You must use symlinks as outlined above. HFS aliases won't work.

Hi Folks,

Can anyone give a link to the manual for QTSS Publisher? It seems to

do
exactly what I want it to do, but I need to alter a few settings such

as
the location it publishes the movies to (I keep the movies on a RAID
array), and I can't work out how to do it by clicking around :)

The built in help file seems pretty light on details...

Thanks,
