The new phones are coming out with H.264 and HE AAC audio. (EVDO
phones). These content types are in .3gp or .3g2 file formats. Such
files can be created with Nextreaming's a/v encoders among others.
Apple is behind the curve on this one. They have announced H.264 (AVC)
but haven't mentioned anything with regards to HE AAC. That means that
files would have to be created using AAC audio, nearly doubling the
required size. (Uff!)
Many current phones support H.263 encoding with AAC audio.
The actual streaming format itself is RFC 3016 LATM. The absolute
latest builds of Darwin do support this format.
