I downloaded QT Broadcaster.
I understand it's the program that "uplinks" the live-feed to Streaming
Server?
So..how do I go about setting up a Streaming Server?
from your page: http://mlearning.rave.ac.uk/mleraning.how_to/qtss.htm :
"Hardware: Dedicated server that can be seen by the outside world.
Software: QuickTime Streaming Server or Darwin Streaming Server installed on
the server"
I assume this costs $$. Where do I go to get this?
from your page:
"Darwin Streaming Server will run on:
- Mac OSX, v10.2.8 and later
- Red Hat Linux 9
- Solaris 9
- Windows 2000 Server/Windows 2003 Server"
The shared-servers for my domain names, run Unix. (I assume this is Red Hat
Linux 9?). So, I can download DSS to it & run it?
Then, I can try to use a *shared* server, in place of the dedicated server?

Hardware & Software solutions
http://www.varasoftware.com/products/wirecast
[ "Wirecast uses the QuickTime Streaming architecture for its broadcasting.
You can "unicast" over the public internet or your LAN. When you want to
scale your webcast up, you simply send your broadcast to a Darwin or
QuickTime Streaming Server. Your viewers can then watch your webcast through
QuickTime Player or embedded directly into a webpage." ]
By Unicast, do they mean your Mac is used as the server for the live-video?
So, later when you want to "scale up".. you use *dedicated* servers.

[ it doesn't use a Streaming Server..it streams from your Mac?? ]

Can you recommend a solution?
I thinking:
Solution 1:
- QT Broadcaster with my Powerbook 1.5Ghz, on my Verizon Wireless phone-card
connection (EVDO: 300-700kbps download, 50-100kbps upload)
- use Streaming Servers
[ how do I set this up? ]
Solution 2:
- WireCast from Varasoftware
[ use Unicast feature: serve the live-video from my Powerbook 1.5Ghz over
the Verizon Wireless phone-card..50k-100kbps upload speed??!! ]
I need something basic to play with.
I've been playing with Evocam:
http://www.evological.com/
I got Evocam running with iSIGHT (& my Sony Digital8 FW camcorder), so it
will do frame-grabs to the Web (using picture-email or FTP). That's a
start.
When, I used my Mac (connected over a Verizon Wireless phone-card, 50kbps
upload) as the "http://" video-server, my other computer viewing the videos
on a browser were going like 1fps..too slow.
