RE: 24 7 video server

Hi Peter,

Is this just going to be an on-line version of the normal community TV station, or is it going to be something in addition to the community TV station? For example, you broadcast CommunityTV over the air that shows one set of programmes, and you want to stream CommunityTV Online which shows a different set of programmes?

If it’s the same channel I was thinking it might be an idea to somehow take a digital feed of the TV station, and use Broadcaster to stream it out live.

In addition to this, you could then have a few specific programmes that users could view whenever they wanted to.

If it’s a separate channel you need something like TuneTracker http://www.tunetrackersystems.com/ that’s available on BeOS, but for video by the sound of it, oh and for OS X ☺

Hope that gives you something to think about…

Thanks,

Andrew McCall

Subject: 24 7 video server

Gooday all.

I have been asked to set up a video server for the local community tv station.

It is supposed to run 24/ 7.  It needs to be able to handle everything from 30 second ads to 90 minute programmes.

I hope to be able to load up to a weeks program on an on air server with a second backup being loaded for the next week.

Does anyone use QT server for this task?  Can it do broadcast quality (and reliability) server work?

The format is 720x576 Pal DV with the output being encoded for transmission.  I would also like a parallel stream to the web at say 300 kb/sec.

Any ideas or success stories?

Peter
