Re: Is it possible to have two relays?

Hello;

We use relays to serve the same stream to both unicast and multicast.

I have 14 relays running on one box using DSS 5.5.1 at this moment, all sending data.
So this does work with multiple relays.

Hello,
I'm new to this list, and hope to find some help. :-)
Before writing here, I've searched the archive but found nothing
similar: I'm having problems configuring multiple relays on DSS.
It seems that only one can work at a time.
The sources are two live IP cameras (with RTSP server built in) which
both work well when enabled one at a time in RelaySettings. I've
configured them via web interface as "Request Incoming Stream" with no
user no passwd. Destination is announced UDP to the same local DSS
(172.31.77.100) or another one (172.31.77.122).

Have you tried sending both to 172.31.77.100 or 122 ?

Also, I sometimes note that relay enable has to be toggled off and then to get
it to work after a server reset, so you might try doing that.

You might also use tcpdump in 172.31.77.100 and 172.31.77.122 to see if the
packets are actually coming in (in some switches you can find this out in the switch CLI).

When I enable the first relay (say A) it works.
Then I enable the second relay (say B), it does NOT work, it always
states "0 bytes relayed" in Relay Status page (while A keeps on
working):

Relay Name Source Destination Bit Rate
Bytes Relayed
A 172.31.77.99 172.31.77.122

B 172.31.77.101 172.31.77.100 0 bps
0 Bytes

This is strange, since with an ethereal capture I can see all the RTSP/RTP/RTCP traffic coming from the camera, I can see no significant difference between the relay which works and the relay which does not work. In fact, if I enable first B and then A, B works and A doesn't; this makes me think that my relays configs are correct.

As you should see from the above pseudo-screenshot, the problem is the
same, only the first enabled relay works.

Analyzing the snoop, I've seen that Darwin Server uses the same RTP/ RTCP
local pair of ports to receive packets from both the sources, but I
don't think this is the problem, since Darwin should be able to
distinguish the streams since they come from different source IP
addresses, different source UDP ports and with different SSRC in RTP
Header.

I've got three installations of DSS (5.5.1): -compiled from source with ./buildtarball on two linux machines -installed from binary on a win32 machine

I've tried most of the possible combinations to have them work, but
without success.
I can't believe that DSS supports only one live relay at a time, so I
think I'm doing something wrong, but I'm clueless.

Any hint?

Thanks,
Claudio
