I've been running a production server for a very long time with quite
good stability, Xserve. 1GHz. PPC, 1GB RAM, 10.3.9. Running QTSS --
a small amount of on-demand QTSS video, and QuickTime Broadcaster
capturing getting signal from a Miglia Alchemy TV PCI card (320x240,
MPEG-4 video medium quality 30fps, MPEG-4 audio, 44.1, 16 bit, mono
-- a similarly configured other xserve is showing 3000 kbits/s Total
Data Rate currently) and handing that signal off to QTSS.
I've recently upgraded to server 10.4.8, and a new version of the
Miglia software. (Prior to upgrading to 10.4.8, I had to fix some
things with fsck.) Not sure if I have the same QTB version as before
or not. Am getting crashes on the server, have to cold reboot.
QTSS throughput I've seen recently 34 MB/S (that may have been when a
crash occurred, not sure), 7 MB/S is a more more average peak.
I have several other xserves with the same configs, only not serving
on-demand video, just the QTB stuff reflected to QTSS. So far
haven't seen hangs on them.
Any ideas? Following are a few excerpts from the System Log (during
the rough time period of the crashes), of possible value (or not). I
don't know exactly when the crashes have occurred.
