I meant the mathematical tricks for throwing out information that will not be missed. Not actual encoding tools, sorry.

It appears to me that divx is their version of H.264 video and MP3 audio in their own wrapper. Does that sound accurate to you?
There appear to have been several flavors of divx, I'm not sure it's even possible to stream it. I thought it was closer to MPEG4 Part 2 Advanced Simple profile video, with mp3 audio. But I have not really looked into it, I'd rather stick with broader more accepted standards. Not to disparage it, divx does seem to have its faithful following, there are 21 people right now viewing the divx forum in doom9.
