Hi all,

Pardon my late and jet-lagged entry... :)

While Helix server does support those other formats, it is not without its
warts. WMV support is probably a bit better than QT support and I concur
with Frank that I had some issues getting QT files to work correctly. Of
course, it might work just fine and it may have been gross incompetence on
my part during setup. ;)

As for the free version of the Helix server, it is available, but it is
not a full version of the product. I don't think it includes support for
non-Real formats and it is also limited to (thinking back through the fog)
~1mbit/sec of throughput. If you don't need more than that, then perhaps
it would be a good solution for you. It's only a download away if you
want to give it a try. For our purposes, we are leaning towards a more
"open" mpeg4-based strategy which makes DSS and QTSS very attractive when
you start looking at licensing costs for the commercial version of the
Helix server.

Cheers,
