Re: Flash

From: "Ben Humpert" <email@hidden>

Personally i never would use flash for videos, i already saw some
flask-videos and i tell you, it really sucks ... Perhaps you dont use
Adobe's simple Flash Player Plugin but the most users do and using this
client is horrible! No real control of the stream (play/pause/rew/fwd/etc).

If soemone is using flash video i leave its homepage. Its MY opinion, if you
like flash video, go for it. : )

Subject: RE: Flash Streaming

The biggest reason for Flash is cross platform compatibility without
having to install different players. With the release of Flash 9
beta, Flash now has all platforms (Windows, OSX and *ux) covered.

This is really off-topic, since Linux users not only don't care about Flash, but generally distrust it and actively block it. Linux users (of course) typically shun proprietary, closed-source software by definition.

I agree that it is very easy to handle. Dont know how the MS plugin can be implemented, but there is no usable QT plugin for Linux except for very simple content. Youtube and Video.google.com work nicenst. And users can even have playlists ;-)

For some months there was some strange Macromind license that did not allow the Flash plugin to be run on an emulator, the Linux API or FreeBSD was a case, and there were many protesters. The license has changed now.

Streaming with video.google.com is streaming, fast forward etc are no problem.
