Hello,
it would be helpful (as per your suggestion) if you could make available
for download (it can be done even via HTTP, it does not just have to be
FTP-able) some of the content for inspection.
may be it is just an 'hinting' problem rather than the actual encoded
material although your 'local' tests seem to exclude this.
best regards

LAR> hi -
LAR>
LAR> i have about 14 hours of material that we encoded on QtPro v7.0.4
LAR> that cannot play on Qt v7.1.3. i have read both the quicktime-users
LAR> and streaming-server-users lists for the past couple of months and
LAR> haven't seen anything like this problem.
LAR>
LAR> here's the details:
LAR> 1. material transcoded from .mp4 file (audio+video) to .mov file with
LAR> h.264 video and AAC stereo audio at 44.1. the files are hinted
LAR> with both a video and sound hint track.
LAR> 2. material played correctly on prior versions of QtPlayer either
LAR> locally from a file or remotely using a DSS.
LAR> 3. installed v7.1.3, audio plays correctly, but video displayed as
LAR> just large white image. i get the same behavior whether
LAR> remote/local on a W2K/PC or remote on a OSX/Mac (still have to
LAR> test local on Mac).
LAR> 4. the original material was captured as an .mp4 file. that material
LAR> still plays correctly.
LAR>
LAR> so, how come material coded with Apple's Quicktime Pro (beta) no
LAR> longer works? and, did i miss the release note saying that i had to
LAR> redo my video or fix it with some tool?
LAR>
LAR> you can see the material at:
LAR>
LAR> http://bmrc.berkeley.edu/research/nossdav05/program.html
LAR>
LAR> if you can't download a file, if you want to see details, let me know
LAR> and i'll post an ftp'able file.
LAR>
LAR> my current guess is that something in the security checks for v7.1.3
LAR> or the decoding/rendering of H.264 is broken.
LAR>
LAR> i recently published a paper in IEEE Multimedia that describes the
LAR> capture and publication of this content - you can see the article
LAR> (free) at
LAR>
LAR> http://www.computer.org/portal/cms_docs_multimedia/multimedia/promo3.pdf
LAR>
LAR> needless to say i am concerned that many readers will go to our site
LAR> to look at the video and viola, it doesn't work. hopefully we don't
LAR> have to recode all this material. it took over 170 hours to
LAR> transcode it last time...
LAR>
LAR> thanks for your time,
LAR> Larry Rowe
