I am doing a project with WebDAV, and I am looking at the build in
WebDAV functionality of Mac OS X. I was very surprised that Mac OS X
supports the locking of files (So other users can't write to the open
file).
But this is rather weird: I tried several apps, and only Microsoft Word
uses Locking the way that the moment the file is opened, it is locked.
When I can change the document, save it several times and it only gets
unlocked when I close it again.
All other apps I have tried (Textedit, InDesign, Photoshop) lock the
file only for the few seconds it is opened. While editing, the file is
not locked.
Why do these apps behave differently? Is there a reason why the apps
act differently?
I hope someone can help me here...
Thanks,
Rainer Ziller
