string question?

i have a string issue here, could anyone maybe shed some light on this for me?

so i am coding a c++ program and i want to create a string object from the <string.h> library. i am compiling with g++ on the command line and creating the source code with bbedit.

the problem seams to be that i can't link against the <string.h> library, as if it doesn't exist. is this true? does the <string.h> library not exist on os x?

any info would be appreciated.
