A few queries about status bars

Hi

I've written an application which I wish to reside in the status bar (along
with Volume, Battery, etc). I've written the bulk of the application, but:

* Even though I have deleted the nib files - I don't need any of the
provided UI, the application can still be given focus. When in focus there
is the Apple menu and the application menu. However, commands like minimise
and hide don't work, nor can the menubar be accessed with keyboard
shortcuts. So the menubar is kind of half there! Anyone got any ideas how
I can get this completely deleted so that there is no menubar and no
keyboard focus?

* Secondly, I can't find anywhere in the reference library how to assign a
global keyboard shortcut that will bring up my menu regardless of the
application. Spotlight and QuickSilver do this.

Any help much appreciated.

Saqib
