Hello,
I am a 3rd year Computer Science student in
Victoria, B.C. I would really like to try and
find a workterm in a company that develops for
the Mac in Victoria or Vancouver B.C., but it is
really hard to find. I know Cocoa and the Mac
platform and would really like to develop on a
platform that I enjoy working with. Does anyone
have an idea where I could look at?
Thanks

Hi there,
Against the odds, another list member, myself, is also located in Victoria BC.
That said, I know there are a number of Mac-programming shops here.
I suggest that you involve yourself in local
technology associations, such as Viatec (
http://www.viatec.ca/ ); you should be able to
use their resources to locate businesses you are
interested in, as well as use their regular
events (eg, the monthly "Viafest") to meet people
in the industry and get pointers. "Who you know"
and all that. Also, such associations, if they
have membership fees at all, offer steep
discounts to students; eg, $20/yr vs much higher.
Another possibility is that you may want to
contact local Mac retailers or repair shops if
they can indicate which customers they may have
that are programmer shops.
Or also see if running your own business is allowed as a work term.
(FYI, this was sent to the list since others can
apply the same tactics in their own locations.)
