Re: Using Yahoo's podcasting with iTunes?

Hi Graham,

It uses Yahoo!'s own media RSS format, as you would know if you entered the namespace name into any web browser:

I think people missed my question. My understanding was always that Media RSS "supplemented" the enclosure tag, which I interpreted to mean that it was a superset of standard RSS 2.0 podcasting behavior:

http://search.yahoo.com/mrss
"Media RSS" is a new RSS module that supplements the enclosure capabilities of RSS 2.0. RSS enclosures are already being used to syndicate audio files and images. Media RSS extends enclosures to handle other media types, such as short films or TV, as well as provide additional metadata with the media. Media RSS enables content publishers and bloggers to syndicate multimedia content such as TV and video clips, movies, images, and audio.
Thus, my (perhaps naive) assumption was that such a feed should in fact show up in iTunes, even if the various metadata did not translate. Clearly that's not the case, but I honestly don't know whether:
a) iTunes is missing something it should grok
b) this particular feed is malformed
c) I've completely misunderstood the Media RSS spec

I was hoping somebody already here knew the answer. Or am I still asking the wrong question?

Hi all,

I presume some of you here are familiar with Yahoo's podcasting pages. From what I can tell, a few of them appear to be produced by Yahoo themselves, such as this one:

http://podcasts.yahoo.com/series?s=1ea7074588deb2016ad2f78b9d84ffc7

When I click on Subscribe, I appear to get a feed that uses a 'pcast' protocol, but eventually goes to:

http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/rss_pcast.php? pname=specialevents1&nodeid=244949

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get that to play in iTunes. In looking at the feed, I can't seem to find an "enclosure" tag. Has anyone done an analysis of Yahoo's feed format, so I can figure out whether this is a bug in iTunes or in their feed?

Thanks,
- Ernie P.
