Re: Updated iTunes RSS Spec

Thanks! Looks good. Just to summarise what I think has changed from my initial read, and some questions about them:

- New <itunes:new-feed-url> and <itunes:pubDate> tags. Any reason why we need the latter?

- URL in the namespace declaration is now all lowercase.

- <itunes:image> is still not in table of tags.  Is this channel-only?

- <itunes:category> should no longer be applied at the item level.

- <itunes:explicit> can now be one of yes / no / clean.

- Keywords in <itunes:keywords> should now be separated by commas (was spaces) although the example feed shows only spaces.

- For the <language> it mentions two character ISO 639 language codes - presumably the codes in the RSS 2.0 specification would be fine too? http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/stories/storyReader$15

- <ttl> now gets a mention.

On the rest of the document:

I welcome the information in "The Queue" about timescales and image caching in particular, which has been bringing me a lot of support work lately!

Sometimes in the spec, the iTunes tags are named without the itunes: prefix - e.g. <category> but tags such as <category> and <image> could be the names of proper RSS tags, so it would be good to stay consistent by using the prefix to avoid confusion.

I'd also recommend FeedValidator for checking feeds before submission (e.g. in the Testing Your Feed section): http://feedvalidator.org - it's shocking how many invalid feeds I see, some quite badly broken, yet which work in iTunes but not in other apps.

Here's the current version. Happy carping!

And since we don't yet have an official persistent URL for this, I've created a FAQ entry that points to it:

I will endeavor to keep it always updated and current (at least until we're able to arrange a permanent home).

Note that through the magic of pipermail (?), it actually was inlined quite nicely in the archive:

As Pete says, comment away!
