The output you get back from the ping doesn't play nice with web browsers
because it's gzipped XML. It's a known bug. However it actually really
does work despite the bad browser response parsing experience. The call is
essentially a one-way. Just look at the headers (200 success) using curl
-I if you are concerned whether the http request was successfully
received. I can't promise when a user-friendly HTML response will appear,
but in the meantime, go ahead and ping away; it will result in your feed
getting updated as soon as currently possible.
