Good suggestion, thanks. This isn't something I'm terribly familiar with. I know you can do client management on a user/group/computer basis but I'm not sure how that meshes with my setup. If I want to manage the preferences for any user of an image (that is, any user logging in should have the same login item execute) where does that management go? It's scoped to the image, not to a user, set of users, computer, or set of computers.
It's worth noting that the image has a single user baked in, and that user is set to automatically log in. Still, if I have to manage the user's preferences I want to limit them to the single image in question.

This is a perfect place to use mcx policy to define these things. That way you don't need to ever twiddle the image.
