Re: OD based local admin accounts?

We are in a 1:1 environment (1400 laptops) and looking at InstaDMG for imaging our laptops and desktop this summer as we move to 10.5. One of the considerations is how to handle the local admin account that we had normally created on our image.
Nice! We're 1:1, but only for 360 students plus 79 faculty and then staff... it's about 800 computers including loaners and lab machines. So we're a bit smaller. What's the question about the local admin account? We use a standard admin account for Internal use, and then the faculty have their admin accounts downloaded via LDAP.

So I have 2 questions.

1. Are folks using a OD based admin account (mobile) as the local admin account which would allow for more control in changing passwords, etc. and not having to have the account on the image itself?
We've been running mobil accounts via LDAP for about 4 years now. It works beautifully, but we are switching our automated network backup from sync to time machine.

2. How are folks adding accounts (local or OD based admins) to the InstaDMG process?
In our case, we're not for the laptops, but we do have to set accounts for lab machines. I tend to just build these into the clone before I make the image but they really don't need to change so I don't think it's relevant to your situation (run on sentence much?). Seriously though, if you can leverage LDAP you'll get your mobil accounts up and working in no time... if you can leverage LDAP and Kerberos you might be able to get to single sign on;-)

Thanks!
Tim

P.S. I really enjoy NetRestore over just about anything else for image creation and distribution... I'll have to play with InstaDMG to see what all the hub-bub is about!

P.P.S Using NetRestore and a 15Gig image we can clone all 360 student machines plus loaners (all macbooks) in a day using two underpaid interns on a single 16 port gigabit switch.
