Xgks and ferret

I am about to try and port an application used a lot in oceanography called Ferret. To be honest, I know very little about what I am doing, so every step I can simplify would be helpful. Ferret uses the xgks library to do its graphical displays. I looked through Fink and don't find it, but does anyone know if a port of xgks to OSX already exists. This would save one important step.
