I'm not aware of any binaries available. It may work by compiling code from the CVS repository, looks like it's been updated recently. I've had very good success with some things, basically no changes. (Other have be causing me some trouble.)
You should start by getting Xwindows running using fink.

I am about to try and port an application used a lot in oceanography
called Ferret. To be honest, I know very little about what I am
doing, so every step I can simplify would be helpful. Ferret uses
the xgks library to do its graphical displays. I looked through Fink
and don't find it, but does anyone know if a port of xgks to OSX
already exists. This would save one important step.
