RE: Is Apple listening?

I'm listening (just kidding).

At GNU-Darwin we have almost 2400 unique packages on-line for Apple
computers alone. In addition we provide software for other
architectures, such as Darwin-x86. We have a paper with links to
porting tips, and a package status table. Just scroll down to the
table, which is only a little out of date.
