I would like to get some assistance with porting GENESIS to OS X (through
XDarwin). GENESIS stands for GEneral NEural SImulation System and it is a
freeware modeling environment for neural networks, individual neurons, and
has kinetic modelling tools to study biochemical and transduction pathways
and their interactions. It is used throughout the world for both teaching
and for publication quality research.
Awhile back, Gary Thomas made a patch so that it compiles for mklinux and
LinuxPPC, and more recently a partial patch by Alfonso Delgado-Reyes will
get a very minimal genesis up and working on OS X. I would be happy to send
both patches and the make.out file with the warnings and errors to anyone
interested, or I can whip up a webpage where they can be downloaded. I also
have some correspondence with Alfonso where he has identified potential
reasons why it will not do the full compilation.
This would be a great service to the computational neuroscience community
and would allow mac people to avoid making LinuxPPC partitions or <gasp>
using PCs to run Genesis.
