So my question is, is the i386-darwin8 ABI the same as it was for
NeXT on i386?
No. It's close (at least, I think it is...I don't really know the
NeXT ABI, but it's probably close to Linux), but it isn't the same.
We'll hopefully have ABI documentation available on
developer.apple.com in a few weeks. In the meantime, the
preliminary ABI docs in the Universal Binary Programming Guidelines
are largely correct. That is, I think everything that's in the
UBPG is correct but there might be more information you'd expect in
complete ABI docs that just isn't included.
