Strange autoconf/automake problem

Hi!

I have a C-program which I developed serveral years ago, on a Linux system, and have had just laying around for a while.
Now, I want to start using it again so I tried to compile it on 10.6.2 and of course :-( it doesn't work.

When I started of doing autoreconf I got:

/usr/bin/gm4:configure.in:455: ERROR: recursion limit of 1024 exceeded

And now to the not so funny part. It seems that I can get rid of this problem if I remove AM_PROG_LIBTOOL/AC_PROG_LIBTOOL from configure.in.
But then I can't run automake !

Anyone with a solution to this ?
