Re: graphical tablet

Hi John,

for the moment, I don't know what is the USB/ADB adaptor because I don't have the wacom and the adaptor yet.
Some persons on MacBidouille.com forums want me to make a driver for adb wacom tablet. I am going to receive a tablet and an USB-ADB adaptor by postmail. I have ever developped drivers for USB ADSL modem, PCI TV card and audio firewire device, but I don't know how to make a tablet driver. So I am searching for information about it.
I am going to take a look at wacom web site to find sources.
I don't know if we can write a user space driver for HID drivers, but if we can, it's better. Easier to write, easier to debug and it cannot crash the system.. But I don't know if I can. That's why I ask the question.
Have you ever write a tablet driver? Do you know if I have to declare a IOHITablet or a IOHITabletpointer?
Must I deal with USB interface or with a USB device?

I never use a graphical tablet so I don't really know what you can do with it. I just know that you can use it as a mouse and click with many values if the pencil is pushed with more or less strength.

Sorry for my poor english.

Hi Cedric,

I am with Griffin Technology who developed the iMate ADB to USB adapter. I am curious how you're planning on going about this from the hardware end (are you using the iMate or do you have another converter?). I can probably help to some degree or another.

Depending on how you're going about it, I would probably recommend a kext. But I have no experience writing a user space driver, so maybe that's possible also.

If you look through the darwin sources, you can find both ADB drivers and USB drivers. There are also some tablet sources for developers from the wacom web site.

Hi,
I want to develop a driver for Wacom adb tablet via usb. I just want to know if I have to develop in the kernel (.kext) or can I make a plug-in in user space?
If I must make a kernel driver, must I make a HID driver? Must I use IOHITablet or IOHITabletpointer class?
Where can I find source code for tablet driver? Is there some generic drivers in Darwin?

Thanks!

Cedric Vuillet
