If it is really a CDC Device for either Abstract Control Model or
Ethernet Control Model, It should work in OS 10.3.5 or later.

Folks.
I tinkered with a few USB drivers in OS9, but I am about to start work
on my first for OSX, so pardon the ignorance of my question.
I have a communications class device from ATMEL.
It has 2 interfaces, a communications control and a
communications-Data/Unknown Comm Class Model
As I understand it I only actually need to use the data interface. I
am told that this device basically emulates a USB modem (apart from AT
commands).
I need to setup basic bidrectional chat with this device, preferably
operating as a standard serial port, although I am open to
suggestions.
I have got the Apple USBCDC Sample Driver code, but I dont really know
what to do with it. I tried copying the finished kext into the
System->Library->Extensions folder, but I got an error on startup
saying it wasnt installed properly.
BTW -my device does not currently show up as a serial port, although
USB Prober sees it.
So, questions:
1) Is the Apple USBCDC sample code right for me ? Do I need to remove
something else before I can use this. Is this the same thing that
comes installed with the OS ?
2) Will I need to change anything in the USBCDC code to allow it to
match with my device ? or does the CDC example try to match with
anything ?
3) I am better off doing this from an application level. I only need
access to this device from my app, so it doesn't have to be a driver.
Thanks for your advice.
Cheers
Mark Gilbert.
