Setting sampling rate of USB audio device from command line or from Applescript

Hi, I control the application "Audio Hijack Pro" by applescript to do timed recording.
My main source is Satellite PCM radio tuner and its output is 48KHz S/PDIF.
My USB Core Audio device seems to have default sampling rate 44.1KHz and it sometimes defaults to the rate
in an unpredictable way, which make all of resulted sound files useless.

I need a measure to set the sampling rate of my USB device prior to every timed recording. "Audio Midi Setup" and "Sound it Lite" are the only applications I have that can set the sampling rate. Unfortunately both of them are not applescriptable.

I guess I can set the sampling rate by issuing simple USB commands or by calling some Core Audio functions.
Can anyone show me where to start?
