Re: kIOUSBUnknownPipeErr?

Sorry to bombard the list with messages, but I did a little more experimenting and installed the logging version of the IOUSBFamily kext. I turned on logging and ran my program:

6.500 [5] AppleUSBOHCI[0x1f23800]::DoCreateEP, high speed ancestor hub:1, port:1
6.500 [5] AppleUSBOHCI[0x1f23800]: UIMCreateInterruptEndpoint HS ( Addr: 4:2, max=8, dir=0, rate=0, lo) calling thru
6.500 [5] AppleUSBOHCI[0x1f23800]: UIMCreateInterruptEndpoint ( Addr: 4:2, max=8, dir=0, rate=0, lo)
6.500 [3] AppleUSBOHCI[0x1f23800]: UIMCreateInterruptEndpoint endpoint does NOT exist
6.500 [1] AppleUSBOHCI[0x1f23800]::DetermineInterruptOffset pollingRate of 0 -- that's illegal!
6.500 [3] IOUSBPipe[0x23fa000]::InitToEndpoint Could not create pipe for endpoint (Addr: 4, numb: 2, type: 3). Error 0xe00002ec
6.500 [3] Mouse[0x20e6500]: Failed to create all pipes.

Did some googling and it seems that someone had this problem in 2002 (http://lists.apple.com/archives/Usb/2002/Dec/msg00068.html). The KVM switch is reporting a pollingRate of 0 on the interrupt endpoint, which is not allowed by the USB 1.1 spec. By reading the whole thread, it's obvious that since 2002, Apple has changed the behavior so the interface can be created, but still won't allow the endpoint to be created, since it doesn't follow the USB specification.

Has anything else changed since 2002, or is there a workaround, or am I just not going to be able to communicate with the interrupt endpoint on interface #1? Shame on the company that made this KVM switch for not adhering to the USB and HID specs!

Doug
