slow transfer rate

hi all, i have encountered a readpipe problem which left me baffled thus cod anyone kindly explain it to me? The Usb pipe which i am reading from can support up to 512 bytes however i found out that instead of transfering at 512 bytes, it is transfering at 64 bytes thus making the reading process very slow. So, am i able to define the transfer rate of a Usb pipe? pls reply. thks alot
