A few months back, I reported in bug rdar://4084302 that IOUSBLib was
sometimes hanging on USBInterfaceOpen. This is an issue I have
consistently seen in all versions of 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4 and is still
causing the USB layer of the IOKit to completely hang (all USB
devices become unresponsive). I got it today again with 10.4.1.
Is there any chance that this issue be fixed in a reasonable
timeframe? It's becoming a real problem as we're holding a deployment
of several thousands Macs just because of that. From what I've read
on this list, I'm not alone with this issue, and this appears to
happen with various kinds of USB devices.
I would hate to have to deploy Linux PCs instead of Macs just because
of this issue :-(
If others are seeing the same sporadic issue when opening access to a
USB device from a userland application, PLEASE file a bug too so that
engineering knows that this is a serious issue.
