I have experienced this issue with various handhelds. The latest
lockup I had was with a Palm Tungsten T5. I also experienced this
with a Tungsten T3, a Treo 600, and a Tapwave Zodiac (another
variation of Palm handheld). Note that contrary to previous Palm
handhelds, the T5 is a "always-on" USB device (when not
synchronizing, the device appears live on the USB bus).
The machine currently has the following USB devices plugged in:
MacAlly USB keyboard, Logitech mouse (plugged into keyboard), 20"
Formac LCD screen (Gallery 2010) with DVI-to-ADC converter, Epson USB
printer plugged in the screen.
I experienced the lockup with the handheld plugged either in the
keyboard, or in a Griffin 4-port USB hub.
The lockup happened either with my own software, or with the standard
HotSync (Palm Desktop 4.2.1). HotSync's USB transport also uses
userland USB library. I'm not using a serial adapter at this time.
When working with my own software, the userland code that talks to
the device is this one: http://cvs.pilot-link.org/index.cgi/libpisock/
darwinusb.c
I'm setting up two-machine debugging to provide more useful
information to you. Thanks for your interest in tracking the issue!
Regards,
Florent

I'm sorry, but I don't see any new useful information on
reproducing this problem, other than happens to Palm hand-helds.
Not even a mention of which specific models this occurs on, version
of PalmOS, Palm Serial Adapters, or whatever -- there are just too
many variables -- our testing of hot-plugging and syncing Palms
does not reproduce this problem -- but obviously you and others do.
Help us figure out what is different. Is it only happening with
your software -- but not the standard Palm Desktop software?
Describe in detail what your setup is. Do you have other USB
devices attached when this problem occurs? -- what devices?
