Re: Looking for basic printing info

Apple maintains a separate mailing list for discussion of developer printing issues:

http://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/printing

Since 10.2 (Jaguar) we've adopted the open source project CUPS as the underlying implementation. You can get more about writing CUPS filters at:

http://www.cups.org/

Note: Apple has a special license for CUPS that allows developers to keep their Mac OS X source closed.

Hi,

I'm looking for some basic understanding on how we could talk to an USB label printer from our inhouse Application within OSX.

Our actual system under OS9 looks for the USB printer in the name registery and then send the printer command strings directly to this "device" ( no WYSIWYG / Graphical printing / RIP is used, only plain "old" printer code is send )

We had a basic driver devoloped for our printer which handles the "namegiving" and the character set translations.

So i'm looking for a basic understanding on what we need to organise to have this solution running under OS9.

Could someone guide me to literature/basic understanding on what the possibilities are / what needs to be done to implement such a solution under OSX.

Thanks in advance

Marc
