Mouse hijacking

Hello all,

I would like to realise a small translation table and I thought to use the mecanisme of a cheap USB mouse to get positionning information on it. I would like to know if it is possible and how hard it is to do it. First of all I would like to be able to make a small application that will display the absolute displacement of an USB Mouse and don't let it interfere with the mouse cursor (let says that I already have an other mouse plugged or a trackpad to control the mouse cursor) Is anyone have any clue?
