| Have you read: and This will give you an idea on what you need to do. You need to open a connection from your application to the IOUSBInterface. It seems like you already did that so you're halfway there. If you need to send requests to the control pipe of your device, then you can do it through the Interface (ControlRequest) or through the Device DeviceRequest). The IOUSBDevice will not be open by anybody else, so you should be OK. You are correct in that the IOUSBHIDDriver has opened your IOUSBInterface and won't let you grab it from user space. Depending on the sort of communications that you need, you can use the IOHIDLib interface to deal with your interface, or you need to get your VendorSpecific kext working so that the IOUSBHIDDriver doesn't grab it.
