usb-sticks not recognized

Hi everyone,

With my powerbook G4 and Macos X 10.2.8 I am experiencing an odd problem that appeared just recently: When plugging in more recently manufactured USB-sticks, some of them do not work at all. Some pruduce an error message saying that the USB-port provides too little power, with some of them my powerbook is not even recognizing that anything at all got plugged into the usb-port, even when used direkly at the computers plug with no other usb-devices connected. One usb-stick got recognized only after several minutes but then worked fine. With some usb-sticks I have no problems at all, and all my other usb-devices have not caused any problems yet. (The usb-sticks that fail to connect to my machine work fine with other (windows-)machines, so they seem not to be brocken entirely)

Can anyone think of any explanation for this? Is there any command that I can use to scan usb-ports "manually" to check for devices? Is there any workaround available? It is annoying when people give me usb-sticks that I cannot read.

Thanks in advance, Joerg
